Paul
Bernard,
creator and founder of Este Mundo, graduated from the Royal
College of Music in London, England. His classical
recordings include Paul Bernard: Spanish Guitar,
Majorca (CBC Radio), The Paganinis at Home (ESS.A.Y
New York) and numerous recordings for the American Public
Broadcasting System as well as CBC Radio and Television.
On
the concert stage, he has performed extensively in North
America and England in the Baroque, Renaissance and Spanish
styles. His playing has been described as mesmerizing,
demonstrating both technical acuity and soulful musicality.
As a composer with Este Mundo, he has rendered touching and
invigorating portraits of the earth and sea, love and
spirit. Drawing from his expertise in the Spanish and
Flamenco tradition and his teaching experience, he has
shaped Este Mundo.
Christopher Smith
contributes the greatly energetic and dedicated rhythm that
is so essential to this style. A former student of Paul
Bernard, he graduated with a Bachelor of Music in guitar
performance from the University of Prince Edward Island in
2000. Since then, Chris has been running his own successful
teaching studio. In addition to his appearances with Este
Mundo, he has performed with small orchestras, in a
Renaissance duo with Claire Caseley Smith, and with numerous
theatre companies in both PEI and NS.
Trevor
Campbell,
acoustic bass guitarist, provides the solid foundation upon
which these evocative melodies take flight. He has a
Bachelor of Music from the University of Prince Edward
Island and has been playing guitar professionally for the
last 10 years. Trevor has performed in a variety of
different ensembles, from folk to funk, and recorded a CD of
his own compositions in 1999. He is a successful producer
and sound engineer, who has produced and performed on an
album that garnered an East Coast Music Award Nomination.
